I had an itch ...

Updated: Aug 7

No, don't worry!

I'm not about to tell you all about mysterious itches. Or niggles. Or any other skin condition for that matter!

(Although, if you'd like to learn more about what I've learned about being distinctly middle-aged you may want to read this: Six things I'd tell my 39 year old self)

No, instead I'd like to introduce you to the rollercoaster that's been going on in my brain.

I'll explain, in a fairly orderly fashion.

  1. You know I'm all about doing what you love, right? I believe that life's too short to not do what you want to do in your career. Everything you want to do. At the same time, or in sequence. That I help women who feel stuck in their careers to move from where they are today into work they love.

  2. You may also know that I love creativity. I believe changing your career is a creative process, which requires not only your logical brain (the 'plan it and make it happen' part), but most definitely also the intuitive, emotional, creative part.

  3. Finally, I believe that your creativity is what sets you apart. That it is what makes you unique. No one can bring into the world what you can. But too often our creativity is stifled. The projects and ideas that are hiding in that notebook of yours never see the light of day.

I believe that is because your creativity needs 'feeding'.

And how can you do that? By making time in your day to do something creative. By doing something that makes you happy. By doing something creative just for fun, just for you.

In other words, you need to DO something creative to BECOME creative.

Are you still with me? Yes? (I told you it was a rollercoaster).

Now, here comes the crux (or, rather, two cruxes. Is that a word?):

  1. I believe you are multi-faceted, multi-passionate, multi-talented. That you have many mini-projects and ideas floating around in the back of your head. Projects you never seem to have time for. Things you want to do 'one day'.

  2. I believe you are all creative. You paint, draw, write, knit, crochet, make music videos, write speeches. The list is endless.

  3. (Okay, yeah, alright, so technically that is three cruxes). The main reason you want to change your career is because you want freedom. Freedom and flexibility in your career and life.

There are many ways to achieve that. But one way is to see careers no longer as this linear track. Or even as one track. But instead to see it as a bunch of 'golden threads'.

So, yes, I had this itch, this niggle, in the back of my brain.

A niggle that said: What if there was a place where ...

  • You could celebrate your creative and multi-passionate, multi-talented self?

  • You could start doing more of the things you'd like to do?

  • You could meet like-minded women to bounce around ideas, do the things you want to do, actively cheer each other on and hold each other accountable to make stuff happen?

  • You could identify YOUR 'golden thread' and build your career around it?

What if such a community existed?

Would you be in?

Well, you CAN! Be in, I mean.
